‘I don’t understand why I’m here, Father,’ I said. ‘I’ve

already been to confession three times today.’

‘It’s the sins of the past,’ he replied.

‘But I’ve confessed all my sins of the past,’ I said.

‘The ones that still bother you, confess them in detail,

leaving nothing out.’

I did this. At the end, he said a prayer over me, and I

knew that those sins would never bother me again. I now

understood why Our Lady had asked me to go to Medjugorje.

Towards the end of the year, I went back to London to ask

David for my car back. I needed it to travel around Scotland

delivering posters and fliers for a theatre production that a

friend was staging. There was no answer when I phoned him,

so I went round to his flat. The kitchen light was on, but there

was no reply when I knocked. I shouted through the letterbox.

After a couple of minutes David opened the door, looking

pale, shabbily dressed and unshaven.
